EEEKWhale Sighting in the West End! MK Illumination lights up Morton Park
If you have been on social media recently you may have noticed all the buzz around MK Illumination‘s orca whale which was installed yesterday at Morton Park. This is the first of several lighting installations to be placed around the West End as part of next week’s Lumiere Festival.
Constructed by hand in Slovakia, this orca whale is a bespoke one-off design made specifically for English Bay in recognition to the whales in the waters around Vancouver.
The white powder-coated frame is 7m long by 2.5m high and contains over 6000 LED white bulbs. The lighting is environmentally friendly due to its low energy, long lasting bulbs that also reduces the carbon foot print. It’s energy usage is only 177 watts and 36v.
